-Soldier stood in full attention on the battlefield. He had left some things at home. Like his shotgun. And his rocket launcher. In fact, all he had on him was that familiar old shovel. His trusted companion since the war. Why had he only taken one open, when he had the option of many? He could have blown Luffy's leg right off had he wanted to with an RPG. Instead, he had chosen his shovel. It was a bold statement...-

Listen up, maggot, because I'm only going to say this once. This challenge is lined up with people who can shoot laser beams and punch out mountains. They have forgotten the meaning of TRUE GRIT. But you and I... we're real men. And we'll settle this like REEEEEEAL MEN!

[Luffy tipped his head to the side, looking over his opponent for a brief moment. He began to chuckle aloud, walking towards Soldier. He raises his right arm, making circles with it as his left rested atop his opposite shoulder, helping to ease his joint as he readied the first blow.]

"I wouldn't have it any other way! There's no room for cowards or doubt in this tournament. What's your name?"

You can call me The Soldier, son.

-Soldier popped his knuckles before raising them into an untrained boxing stance. He wouldn't use the shovel unless he had to. No no, he looked forward to fighting this match with his bare damn hands.-

THE Soldier?

[Luffy looks perplexed.]

But you aren't a giant. Giants are THE best soldiers. You look kinda' short, to me, to be a giant.

Or do you not eat much meat? Meat'll put some height on you. You a vegetarian or somethin'?

[Soldier was right, talk was pointless. Luffy did better speaking with his fists anyways. He bent at his knees, going into a horse stance. Lowering his weight, he threw his right arm back, high above his head. With his arm now above and behind him, Luffy screamed aloud as his feet took him off toward Soldier. The gap begins to close, his approach is certain!]

"GO~MU~ GO~MU~ NO~..!"

[It is in this brief fraction of time that Luffy comes to know some thing very important.. Some thing that he certainly should have remembered..

He did not have any of his powers here in Mayfield.]

"SH~IT!"

[His natural strength could bend steel, topple buildings, and generally level any guy stupid enough to stand in the way. Double that with the ability to stretch his body = double the power and an advantage at close range combat. Unfortunately, Luffy was barreling his entire body toward Soldier now, and not just a fist. What he thought would simply be a "snap" and run, was now his full speed charging without any sign of stopping.]

-... Okay. That was... special. Soldier countered Luffy's momentum easily, going for a simple hip toss.-

[Tumbling to the ground, Luffy found himself now taking in a large portion of dirt into his mouth. A few feet away from Soldier now, Luffy had rolled a decent distance as he was tossed into the Earth. Scrambling back onto his feet, he lazily falls onto his rear and grabs at his arms in shock.]

"MY.. MY ARMS?!"

[Coincidentally, he had known that Mayfield takes things from you, very important things. It was surprising, actually. His entire time here he had not needed the use of his Gum Gum powers, so had naturally assumed that his scar and his treasure were the only things taken from him. Alas, Mayfield had some how gotten rid of his Devil's Fruit as well.]

"OI!! WHAT HAPPENED?! WHAT HAPPENED TO MY DEVIL'S FRUIT?! I CAN'T STRETCH OR BOUNCE ANY MORE?!"

What in God's name are you even on about, son?

-Soldier gave a confused look at the boy, scratching his head.-

*Iroha trots up to the fighting area. She hopes she's on time for her friend's match as she notices a familiar face. He can't be... no...*
